Historic Kentucky River
|
The Kentucky River has been used for thousands of years by people. First by members of the Shawnee tribes as a gateway to the prime hunting areas of the "Great Meadow", or Central Kentucky. Early Kentucky pioneers also saw it's value, building numerous forts and stockades on it's banks. Soon, flatboats and keelboats were seen heading down to New Orleans, trading the pride of the bluegrass, bourbon and tobacco. With the building of the 14 locks and dams, barges and caliope boats were able to frequent as well. Now, we share it as the perfect paddling getaway.
