Historic Kentucky River

The Kentucky River has been used for thousands of years by people. First by members of the Shawnee tribes as a gateway to the prime hunting areas of the "Great Meadow", or Central Kentucky.  Early Kentucky pioneers also saw it's value, building numerous forts and stockades on it's banks. Soon, flatboats and keelboats were seen heading down to New Orleans, trading the pride of the bluegrass, bourbon and tobacco. With the building of the 14 locks and dams, barges and caliope boats were able to frequent as well. Now, we share it as the perfect paddling getaway.

This trip is a great way to see some of the more historical reaches of the Kentucky River. We do these trips in both canoes and kayaks, and it is great for any paddler of any skill level. It is even a great trip to bring the kids on! Guides will be on hand to answer any questions on the river, but this is great trip for quiet reflection time.
The trip takes approximatley 4-5 hours. This includes a lunch stop at the famous "Halls On The River" restaurant. The total distance covered is around 7 miles. This trip has scheduled dates, and is available almost anytime for groups (Reservations made at least 7 days in advance are required).
